Maybe you saw a news report on new cases of swine flu, or you spotted a headline about a strain of bird flu found in Asia. These strains are certainly scary-sounding, but it’s important to know that your child’s chances of contracting these strains are highly unlikely. Here’s what every parent needs to know about these flu strains going into the 2011 – 2012 season: Swine Flu Bird Flu How to Protect Your Family A strong immune system can also help protect against the virus. As a mom, make sure that your family is logging enough sleep, drinking plenty of water and eating a healthy diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables. Not only will these moves help protect against the flu, but they’ll also fend off colds too. If you suspect that your child does have the flu, call your pediatrician. He or she can monitor your kid’s sickness and prescribe antiviral medications if necessary.
