Bad Eating Habits Can Be Broken

Bad Eating Habits Can Be Broken

Finding the right strategies to help you stop bad eating habits can be like trying to find the perfect pair of jeans: You may have to try on a bunch of different styles until you find the one that fits the best.

If you’re struggling with bad eating habits, you’re not alone. Most of us reach for not-so-good-for-us options from time to time. Here’s how you can break bad habits and feel better than ever.

1. Keep a food journal to avoid emotional eating.
Sometimes without realizing, we eat when we’re feeling anxious, depressed, sad, bored or even happy. Solving this common habit often requires some detective work in the form of a food journal. Write down what and how much you eat, identify emotional triggers, environmental situations and the intensity of hunger. Once you’ve pinpointed situations or feelings that lead you to eat, be proactive when these events occur. Instead of reaching for the pint of ice cream, bag of chips or whatever it might be, call a friend, do five minutes of deep breathing or head outside for a brisk walk.

2. Limit distractions to avoid overeating.
Do you typically eat your lunch at your desk while reading emails? Do you pick up your phone in the middle of a meal? Instead, limit distractions and get into the practice of focusing on the food you are eating. Turn off and put away cell phones, iPods, laptops and other electronics at mealtime. Prepare and eat more meals at home. And when you eat, sit at a table (not in front of the TV or on the sofa) and enjoy your food. You’ll eat less and make better food choices.

3. Get enough sleep to avoid weight gain.
Lack of sufficient sleep has been linked to weight gain and the risk of obesity. According to research at Johns Hopkins University, sleep deprivation impacts two hormones that influence hunger levels. An imbalance in the hormones, ghrelin and leptin, will cause sleep-deprived individuals to eat more and have less control over when to stop eating. If you find yourself extra tired on a given day, recognize the potential to overeat and prepare in advance. Plan meals ahead and pre-portion snacks. Resist the urge for caffeine late in the day, which can further interfere with sleep. Aim to get enough sleep each night -- the average adult requires between 7 and 8 hours.

4. Practice mindful eating to develop lifelong healthy habits.
Poor eating habits and other health problems creep into our lives when we don’t take time to recharge. Schedule yoga or mediation in your daily or weekly routine to ensure time to focus on relaxation and breathing awareness. And give yourself mini breaks by simply shutting your eyes for a few minutes to take notice of your breathing before each meal. You will be more aware of your physical hunger, and that will allow you to slow down while you’re eating and make more conscious decisions about food.

I have done the same thing. First you may want to switch to sutuittsbe sugar for the first week and then the next week decrease your intake of that until you can do without. Eat fruits instead of other sugar free candy or treats. It has worked wonders for that way and I also experienced some weight loss since I don't eat sugar anymore. Most foods do contain sugar which is true, but if you check the nutritional facts, make sure it has in 2g or less. Good Luck!

I'm doing the same, and trust me it worksLook for whole grain bread and other whole grain products. These are a lot etetbr for you and more and more products are using them now. Making the switch to whole grain pasta and cereals is great as wellTo limit your sugar intake, find other things with a lot of flavor to keep you satisfied. Take a trip down the sauce and spice aisles and you can find a lot of different indredients to add to your meals and keep them low on sugar/carbs. Say you have salmon for example, you can put paprika, oregano, and lemon juice on it to add some kick. I picked up a bottle of Stubbs marinade at my local supermarket since the guy on the label looked funny haha. It tastes great and has almost no sugar whatsoever. They make great tasting marinades for beef, pork, and chickenGreen veggies, eggs, lean meats, fish, and peanut butter are also good things to include in your meals. Eating right should not be a chore, theres a lot to chose from. You just have to shop smart, and read the labels before you buy. One last thing: some products may fool you into thinking its healthy by saying whole wheat . Don't confuse that with whole grain. Check the ingredient list. If the words whole grain are not listed as one of the furst ingredients, I wouldnt trust it. This includes things such as wheat flour, refined/processed flour, etc

Always Mom
You were my fairy tale princess, So much larger than life. You were my angel and my witness Through all my pain and strife.
At times you made me angry, Great words I would proclaim How someday you'd be sorry. You were the one to blame.
But when I needed comforting You always found the time. Your words were more soothing Than days of childhood sublime.
Now the distance holds us apart, The boundaries have no end. I'll hold the memories in my heart. You're my mother, my best friend

Mommy and Toddler Groups

One of the ways in which moms continue the all important bonding with their toddlers, as well as having their child experience being with other toddlers, is through mommy and toddler groups.

There are a number of groups which you and your toddler can join. One of which is at a library or checking your local community to ascertain if they have any similar groups you can join. In fact, you may wish to start a group of your own.

You know, bonding with your toddler can also encompass a day at the park -- just the two of you. The nature/nurture experience can extend beyond you and your child, as you take in the greenery, trees and flowers.

For more information about mommys and toddler groups, check your local newspaper to see if there are any groups which you feel you would like to participate in. Mommy and toddler groups can be formed or joined or simply begin with a few neighbors with kids of similar age.
